Group Dog Obedience Classes

Pam teaches group classes for puppies and adult dogs through Sirius Dog Training.  For more info or to register for any of these classes, contact Sirius at http://www.siriuspup.com/.

Dr. Ian Dunbar and Kelly Dunbar have developed a complete, three-part curriculum carefully designed to coincide with your puppy’s cognitive development. Our Complete Puppy Training Course will help you navigate the early stages of your pup’s life, from puppy nipping and potty training all the way through to the trials and tribulations of living with a rowdy adolescent dog. At Sirius we create dog stars!

Raising and training a confident, friendly, and well-mannered lifelong companion takes deserves more than just a 5-week commitment to class.

Puppies develop into dogs very quickly. Your young pup will go through many stages in her first year and Sirius is here to guide you through all of them with the goal of both preparing pups to live with their people and producing stellar companion dogs.

Consequently, we offer our world-famous SIRIUS® Puppy Class as a unique, three-part course comprised of our brand new Puppy Kindergarten and our world-renowned, often imitated never duplicated, SIRIUS Puppy I and Puppy II for a total of 14-weeks of comprehensive and concentrated learning.

The new course is specifically designed to quickly start your pup off on the right paw and to make sure early training and socialization sticks through your dog's adolescence by becoming effortlessly integrated into your ongoing daily routine.

Our puppy classes are taught entirely off-leash in a real-life format with the goal of producing good-natured and well-mannered adult dogs. The primary emphasis is on producing safe, people-friendly and dog-friendly dogs and mastering off-leash, verbal control for around the house and out and about.

To facilitate learning, owners are provided with two class textbooks written by Dr. Ian Dunbar.

Our dog training methods are always both Fido and family friendly.

Puppy Kindergarten - for puppies between 8 and 12 weeks

Is your new puppy chewing everything up and biting everybody? Are you having house training problems? Does your pup cry when left alone? Do you have puppy-raising questions you'd like addressed by a professional? Then you've come to the right place, because puppy training is Sirius business. The clock is ticking. From birth to approximately 12-weeks of age, your puppy's brain is a veritable sponge, soaking up life lessons and habits that will form the foundation of her personality and long-term habits. The Sirius Puppy Kindergarten program focuses on the urgent life skills a puppy needs to learn to become a safe and stellar dog. The curriculum is designed to coincide with your pup's natural developmental deadlines to address common, yet often unwanted, puppy behavior and teach you how to best sculpt your puppy into the ideal companion.

Puppy Kindergarten is an on-going class and is designed so that you can start in any module at any time. Each session is a stand alone class and does not build on the past module, thus allowing puppies to start in class as soon as possible.

SIRIUS® PUPPY 1 - For puppies between 10 and 18 weeks

Our puppy classes specifically focus on teaching bite inhibition (gentle jaws), socialization with other dogs and people (especially children, men and strangers), calming and handling, attention, off-leash household manners/obedience and the prevention of behavior and temperament problems. Special emphasis is paid to phasing out the need for food lures and rewards for reliable verbal and hand signal, off-leash control (around the home or on walks), yet promoting the continued use of food treats for classical conditioning - to teach dogs to thoroughly enjoy the company of people and other dogs. Owners may download a free copy of Dr. Dunbar's BEFORE and AFTER You Get Your Puppy at the time of registration.

SIRIUS® PUPPY 2 -  - Exclusively for graduates of SIRIUS® Puppy 1

Early puppy training is as easy as it is enjoyable. Much more challenging though, is to ensure that your puppy maintains bite inhibition, remains socialized and friendly to other dogs and people, and continues to pay heed to you instructions while working through adolescence. Training focuses on proofing verbal control without the need for food lures or rewards, or any other training tools. Exercises include distance sits in play (for the home, yard, dog parks and off-leash walks), settle down, rock-solid stays, and both off-leash and on-leash walking and heeling. Puppy 2 will help you teach your adolescent pup to be calm, attentive and responsive and to respond quickly, willingly and happily, especially when distracted, off-leash, and at a distance.

For the most part, adult classes are taught on-leash until we are certain that all dogs are people-friendly and dog-friendly and safe to play and train off-leash. Adult classes initially involve learning to manage, control, and channel the dogs' energy, enthusiasm and exuberance by teaching impulse control, calmness and attention, whereupon teaching basic obedience becomes a much easier endeavor.

SIRIUS® Dog Training 1 - For friendly dogs over 19 weeks

An excellent basic obedience course for dogs that have never taken a class before or for dogs needing to brush up on rusty obedience skills. Our absolutely unique and innovative all-or-none reward training techniques make training adolescent and adult dogs a peaceful and enjoyable experience. Initial exercises focus on calming, settling-down and regaining attention to facilitate teaching basic manners - sit, down, stand, stay, walking on-leash and polite greetings. This class is held on-leash.

SIRIUS® Dog Training 2 - Exclusively for graduates of SIRIUS® Dog Training 1

Our goal is to enable owners to enjoy their adolescent dog's over-the-top joy for life by re-channeling the dog's exuberance (hyperactivity, jumping-up, barking and pulling on-leash) into equally enthusiastic obedience. Emphasis is based on super-prompt sits and downs, reliable rock-solid stays, and controlled on-leash walking and heeling. This class is designed for dogs who have completed our Sirius Dog Training 1 Course.
